We are lucky enough to have to have a great curved staircase in our front entry. I always felt it was missing that grand feeling though. I went on Houzz and saved all of the entries I love, one thing stood out. All the entry ways I loved had beautiful molding! However lots of molding costs lots of money! I am constantly going from one renovation to another, so I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on our entry. Then I came across the room below and realized I could get the effect I was looking for by tricking the eye a little.
This was our front entry below, a lot a yellow and very ho hum!
I decided to replace the flimsy hollow doors with solid ones(not just for sound but the weight of the doors makes the house seem much more substantial) and then use trim to create boxes around the room to imitate the more expensive paneled walls, bringing it all together with a coat of white paint. I also decided to re-stain the floors a deeper color with much less red. I painted the walls above my “molding” a neutral gray color.
All in all thrilled with our transformation, now I just need to do the fun part accessorize!!
